WHY PAY OUT OF POCKET VERSUS MEDICAREPrivacy and Confidentiality When Medicare or Private Health Insurance is used the following information is availible to third parties: Your Private Information Psychiatric Diagnosis Personal Issues Treatment Plan and Progress Reports Medicare, Private Health Insurance and Employee Assistance Programs ask for detailed personal information about clients in order to make payment decisions. This review can undermine your sense of Privacy and Confidentiality necessary for effective Counselling and Psychotherapy. The widely available ‘Mental Health Plan’ Diagnosis becomes part of your Health Records held by the Government.

PAY PRIVATE - NO LOSS OF PRIVACY TO THIRD PARTY COMPANIESChoose your Own Therapist: Many Insurance Companies Limit your Choice of Therapists. Often Clients prefer to choose their Therapist in order to avoid a potential Conflict of Interest or wish to see a Therapist who comes recommended to them. Medicare: Psychotherapy fees are, at this stage, not refunded by Medicare. You can claim through your Private Health Fund, provided you have "Holistic Counselling Cover". The hourly Gap Fee of the Medicare Rebate, in most cases, is in alignment with a Psychotherapy Session Fee.
